Stephanos sections: 136c (only as the starting point for the tangential discussion)
We started with David showing PG that he has been working on a better translation of Tuesday's crucial challenge from Socrates to Parmenides (136c), "..but why not unfold yourself in detail a hypothesis Self for me.." (or some such)
this propelled us into a complete morning of interesting tangential subjects but unfortunately no Parmenides study.. We archive it, anyway.
- ..that David had found a hole in the academic literature and PG encouraging him to play there
- ..and PG's concluding that Greek could say things English cannot, and our asking if our language's (English's) limitations prevent us from seeing things? (Sapir / Whorf) (David: "It IS Greek to me"), and PG: "European philosophy down the tubes"
- PG suggesting (again) a virtual reality world that gets participants into philosophy (republic, parmenides), perhaps even (re)introducing the (6 months of preparation for) the Eleusinian mysteries to virtual reality (see The Road to Eleusis).
